University open days are an opportunity for prospective students to look around the campus, learn about courses, speak to staff and students and get to know the university.
Open days are informal events so the dress code is usually relaxed. It’s best to wear something comfortable including comfy footwear. Remember, there will likely be a lot of walking especially if you sign up for the campus tour.Â
In saying that this is your chance to impress your possible future university. So whilst there is no requirement to wear a suit it’s best to wear something respectable. This means nothing with offensive slogans or clothes that are too revealing.Â

The only reason you would want to wear a suit (or other formal attire) to a university open day is if you have an interview with the university on the same day. Some universities host interviews for specific courses on the same day as the open day.
What else should you take?
- Your entry ticket
- An outdoor jacketÂ
- Notepad and penÂ
- Bag (to carry all of the brochures and other goodies that are usually given out)
