Open days are a really useful way to get to know where university or college and seek information about courses you are interested in. To help you get the most out of attending an open day here are our top tips.
Plan your day
Universities and colleges will usually publish information about the open day in advance including what events and activities will be available, campus tour times, talks and who will be available to talk to.
Decide in advance what activities you would like to take part in, who you would like to speak to and what information you would like to receive. This way you can plan your day in advance and ensure you are able to do everything you would like to.
Ask for a copy of the prospectus or any other useful leaflets that you can take away with you.
Ask questions
Think about any questions you would like to ask. Remember there is no such thing as a silly question. After all, it is your future you are deciding. You may wish to ask about entry requirements, writing your personal statement or career prospects. It may be worthwhile writing your questions down beforehand.
Talk to the students
Speak to current students about their experience and what they have to say about the university or college and the course. They will be able to offer a realistic insight into the university/college and the course, offer advice and answer any questions you may have.
Have a look at the campus
Take some time to have a look at the campus. Find out what facilities are available such as the library, gym, accommodation or places to study.
Go for a walk around the campus ask yourself “can I see myself studying here?” Try to get a feel for the place and think about whether you would feel happy studying at this university.
