Finding a summer job

Search online

Without a doubt, the best place to search for jobs is online. Many companies have careers pages on their websites displaying all vacancies including summer jobs where you can search and apply online. Some websites allow you to register for job alerts so you can receive email updates about jobs that would suit you.

You can also search on dedicated recruitment websites or on LinkedIn using the job search feature. Here you can use the search criteria to look for jobs in your local area and see vacancies for many different companies.

Nowadays social media is a great way to find out about job opportunities. Lots of businesses (especially small local businesses) advertise vacancies on their social media pages. Keep an eye on the social media pages of businesses near you (or follow them) to see any upcoming job opportunities. Read our guide to using social media to find a job.

Keep an eye on shop windows

Many businesses particularly retailers or hospitality venues advertise vacancies by posting an advert in their window. Next time you visit the shops keep an eye on shop windows for posters advertising job opportunities. It is likely you will be directed to their website to apply online or asked to speak to staff in the store.

Visit employers

Not all summer job vacancies are advertised online so it is also a good idea to take your search offline as well. Visit employers in person and ask if they need any temporary staff for the summer. Take along your CV as well so you can leave a copy with them. Even if they are not hiring at that exact moment they may keep you in mind for future vacancies.

If you know people who work for businesses who regularly take on summer staff ask if they know of any upcoming vacancies.
