Northern Ireland to launch Youth Assembly

Young people in Northern Ireland will soon be able to have their voices heard and take part in decisions affecting them following the announcement of a Northern Ireland Youth Assembly.

The NI Youth Assembly will have 90 members with a core age group of 13-17 however there will be an upper age limit of 21. Members will be chosen from constituencies and other areas of the community.

This is a great opportunity for young people in Northern Ireland to help shape legislation and take part in decision making. Young people will help select which issues will be prioritised allowing them a chance to focus on topics most important to them.

Planning is currently underway for the NI Youth Assembly which is expected to be based at the Parliament Buildings in Stormont. It is proposed that there will be two sessions per year and four committees which will meet on a regular basis. Meetings will be chaired by the Speaker of The Northern Ireland Assembly.

Any young people in Northern Ireland who would like to get involved can register their interest by visiting http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/visit-and-learning/youth-assembly-2020/
