Making The Most of The January Sales

0

I know we’ve just had Christmas but who doesn’t love having a browse through the January sales? It’s a good chance to start spending any gift cards or money you have been given for Christmas.

Here are some shopping tips to help you find the best deals and make the most out of the January sales.

Try to shop for something specific

There is no harm in having a browse at what’s on offer but when it comes to making purchases try to make a shopping list of stuff you really need or want. Perhaps you need a new jacket or there is a pair of trainers you like the look of. No point buying something for the sake of it just because there is 20% off.

Set a budget

Sorry to be a spoilt sport but it’s best to set a budget and stick to it.

Know exactly how much your gift vouchers are worth and how much money you are prepared to spend. Resist the temptation (as much as you possibly can) to go over your budget. That’s why it’s a good idea to take cash instead of your card. Once you’ve run out of cash you’ll know you’ve reached your budget.

So as much as you love the £100 trainers that are reduced from £150 if you really cannot afford them please don’t waste your money.

Don’t just look at things that you need now

It’s not just winter stuff that it’s on sale. There will be lots of spring and summer items at discounted prices. So whilst you might have no intention of wearing shorts or a swimming costume at the moment, think about whether you would wear them during the summer.

Use the January sales as a chance to start buying your spring and summer wardrobe.

Consider buying people’s birthday presents (or start your Christmas shopping if you really want to get a head start)

Yes, you read that correctly. Some people have been known to buy some Christmas presents in the January sales and keep them for the rest of the year. You may laugh but actually, it’s not a bad idea. After all, you are saving money and it spreads the cost. Just make sure it’s something that will last until December. I hate to imagine what a box of chocolates would look (and taste) like after being stored in a cupboard for nearly a year.

If you know you will need to buy presents for people in the next few months why not buy them now whilst they are at a reduced price?

Please be kind and respectful to retail staff and your fellow shoppers

I shouldn’t really need to be saying this but sadly there is a small percentage of people who think it’s acceptable to be rude to retail staff or other shoppers. Please treat everyone politely and courteously.

If there is a long queue, the shops are busy, a sale item is out of stock or you cannot find what you are looking for it is not the fault of the retail staff.
