How to write your degree on your CV

1

One of the most important sections of your CV is your education history. This gives you the opportunity to tell the employer what qualifications you have and the subjects you studied. If you have gained a university degree the employer will want to hear about it especially if it will help you with the job.

Plus, it is a great way to mention some other activities you were involved with at university such as societies or competitions.

So how you should write your CV on your CV?

The key information you need to provide is:

  • The name of the university
  • Course title
  • Type of degree awarded
  • Start date and end date

For example:

University of Glasgow

BA (Hons) English Literature 2:1

September 2016 – July 2020

Space permitting you could also include other information such as relevant modules (tailor these to the job), your dissertation title and any societies you were involved with.

If you have specific achievements such as taking part in a competition, receiving an award or having some of your work published be sure to mention this.

For school pupils you should include the name of your secondary school, the subjects studied and at what level. There is no requirement to include your grades unless you want to.

What if you haven’t received your results yet?

If you have not received your final results yet you have a couple of options. One option is to include your expected degree classification if you know what this is.

For example:

Predicted 2:1

On track to achieve a first-class honours

Another option is to include the credit points you have already achieved for each module.

Be sure to include your expected graduation date so the employer knows when you are available to start work.
