People who wear glasses will understand the importance of having glasses that have the right look and feel (as well as being able to help you see). However, glasses can also be expensive to buy which is why it is important to look after them.
If you break or lose your glasses you may need to buy a new pair unless you have some form of insurance or warranty plan set up with your optician. You may also need to pay for a new eye test to check your prescription.
Your glasses need to be taken care of and kept in good condition. Here are some tips for looking after your glasses.
- Keep them in a glasses case if you are not wearing them. This stops dust or dirt reaching them and helps to prevent scratches or marks.
- To clean them either rinse gently with water or use proper glasses cleaning spray.
- Try to use a proper cloth to clean your glasses. Avoid using tissues, kitchen roll or paper towels as their textured surface can scratch your lenses. Also do not use your t-shirt unless it is 100% cotton as the fibres in the material can also scratch your lenses as well as any dirt on your clothes.
- If possible try to let your glasses air dry. Set them down somewhere and let them dry on their own.
- If your glasses need adjusting take them to an optician. They have the equipment, tools and the training to adjust glasses properly. Do not try to do it yourself as you may accidentally break them.
- When removing your glasses use both hands to take them off. If you use one hand the frame will start to bend.
- Keep your glasses away from direct heat sources I.e do not rest them on top of the radiator.
- Do not sleep with your glasses on as this could cause the frame to bend or even break.
