How to make the most of student discounts

2

Being a student does come with its advantages. One of the best perks is being eligible for student discounts when shopping. Be sure to make the most of this, after all, it only lasts whilst you are at university or college. Here are the best ways to ensure you don’t miss out.

Remember, to take advantage of student discounts you will need to provide proof of your status as a student. Usually, this means showing your Student ID card (also called a matriculation card) which you will receive when you start university or college.

Always carry your student ID card

Be sure to carry your student ID card with you at all times. After all, you won’t be able to take advantage of student discounts without it and you just never know when the opportunity to use it will arrive.

Use it online as well as in-store

Your student discount can often be used online as well as in-store. It is likely you may need to verify your status as a student with the retailer online or use a discount code from Unidays.

Ask if shops offer a student discount

Just because a shop does not advertise a student discount does not necessarily mean they won’t offer one. Some shops (I’ve no idea why) will still offer a discount to students even if this is not something that is publicly advertised.

Whenever you are shopping ask (politely) if they offer a student discount. As that saying goes “if you don’t ask you don’t get”.

Check the T&Cs

Be sure to double-check the terms and conditions before trying to use your student discount. Whilst using your student discount shouldn’t present any problems there may be some restrictions such as a minimum spend or only being able to use it on certain products.
