How to blur your house on Google Maps

Google Maps has a feature called Street View which allows you to view and navigate panoramic images of cities and streets at a street-level view (almost as if you were standing there yourself).

Understandably, this has raised a number of concerns surrounding privacy and security.

If you would rather your house was not visible on Street View Google does have the facility to blur houses if you ask them.

How to ask Google to blur your house on Google Maps

  1. Find your house on Google Maps
  2. Enter Street View by clicking the small yellow figure (on the bottom right-hand corner) and dragging them to your house on the map
  3. When your house is visible on the screen click ‘Report a Problem’
  4. A red box will appear on the screen which you should move until it centres on your house
  5. Select ‘My Home’ in the Request Blurring’ field
  6. You will be asked to fill out a reason as to why you wish your house to be blurred
  7. Enter your email address and click ‘Submit’

There is no set timeframe for when Google will comply with your request. They may also contact you to request further information about why you wish your house to be blurred.

It’s worth noting that once your house has been blurred it is blurred permanently and cannot be changed.
