Interview With A Law Student

Lyndsay is a 2nd-year law student in Glasgow.

Why did you decide to study law?

From a young age, I was interested in the Scottish legal system and the background of how the judicial system operates. The most interesting area for me was always criminal law and in particular prosecution. I was obsessed with crime TV programmes and always wanted to explore the field further.

What is your favourite thing about studying law?

The amount of knowledge you receive is amazing and you really get an in-depth view into not only the legal system but also the history and the formation of laws and the variety of laws.

I also enjoy exploring multiple types of law because you get a taste of how different each one is.

What advice would you give to a school pupil who is thinking about studying law?

Don’t focus too much at the beginning on what area of law you want to go into, you will get to experience a wide variety of law and you can decide afterwards which field you like.

Also, don’t worry about trying to get a lot of experience before university, it’s hard to get legal experience without having basic legal knowledge behind you.

Another big piece of advice is it’s not like the movies and tv programmes but it is still amazing.
