I’ve collated some of the most common questions about the Facebook Messenger app along with an explanation.
What is the difference between an admin and a creator in a group chat?
The creator of a group chat is the person who initially created the chat and they are automatically an admin.
An admin can approve new members who have requested to join (if admin approval is turned on), remove members for the group, promote members to admin and remove admin status from someone.
Can the admin or creator be removed from the group?
The creator of a group chat cannot be removed by another admin. Instead, if they wish to leave the group they must remove themselves. If the creator leaves, the group still be active and the rest of the group members can still talk as normal.
Admins can be removed from a group chat but only by another admin or the group’s creator.
Can Facebook read my private messages?
Yes and no. Whilst Facebook is unlikely to have employees sitting reading every single Facebook conversation, all messages (including images and videos) are scanned by an automated system. If any are identified as possibly breaching Facebook’s policies they are reviewed by a moderator to check if they are indeed breaking any of Facebook’s rules and if any action needs to be taken.
It should be noted that this is to prevent abusive or harmful content and not for marketing purposes.
Can the other person tell if I screenshot a message?
No other people cannot see if you screenshot a Facebook message.
Can I search for a specific message within a chat?
Yes, simply click the heading of the chat which will take you to various options. There you will see an option entitled “search in conversation” which will let you search for a particular message within a chat. You can search for individual words or full sentences
This means you do not need spend ages scrolling through the entire chat.
